Upon arriving in Iceland, we approached Hallgrímskirkja in central Reykjavík. From the top of the church, one can view the city in all directions. From there, we hopped to the Einar Jónsson Sculpture Park then strolled through Hljómskálagarður Park on the way to the Harpa Concert Hall and the north shore. The next day, we visited the National Gallery of Iceland and the National Museum of Iceland, before passing by the Alþingi, Iceland’s national parliament. We continued our journey with a whale watching voyage in the Atlantic Ocean and a stop at the Asmundur Sveinsson Sculpture Museum. Then, we hit the road on the Golden Circle, stopping first at Þingvellir National Park, then checking out waterfalls, geysers, and friendly horses. On the fifth day in Iceland, we hiked along the Reykjadalur Hot Springs, where steam erupted from the earth—and on that cold day the river was comfortable to wade in. In the afternoon, we walked behind Seljalandsfoss. On the sixth morning, we explored a black sand beach in Landeyjahöfn, then headed to the bottom of the Þórsmörk Valley and the top of Valahnúkur Mountain. The next day, Skógafoss greeted us with rainbows. We climbed up the Sólheimajökull glacier and down into an ice cave. Finally, we couldn’t head back to Reykjavík without making a stop in Vík to see the black sand Reynisfjara Beach.
